Sumter is proud to be the home of Shaw Air Force Base and US Army Central, which are
integral parts of our community. As a school district, we welcome and value the men and women
who serve in the armed forces and their family members. Together, we look for ways to foster
our relationships as we work in collaboration to ease the burden of a transition to a new school district.

Sumter School District has been designated as a Purple Star School District, a new statewide recognition program that celebrates schools and districts that make a significant commitment to welcome and support military families. Purple Star schools and districts advance the requirements of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission, MIC3, by seamlessly connecting students and helping them stay on track for ongoing academic success.
